About Shay

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Gray/Silver/Salt & Pepper with White
  • Declawed: No
  • Housetrained: Yes
SSR is pleased to announce that we are partnering with Nash Correctional Institution and are proudly participating in their 'A New Leash On Life' prison training program. Shay is one of our foster dogs that completed training and she graduated on March 27, 2010. During her time at Nash, Shay learned sit, shake with both paws, down and rollover. She had fun with the agility course, which includes walking the bench, climbing an A-Frame, jumping through a tire, placing on a pedestal and then doing her sit, shakes and down.

Name:  Shay

Sex:  Female

Approx. DOB:  July 2008

Weight:  Approx. 40 lbs.

Coat Color:  Gay and White

Eye Color:  Blue

Energy Level:  Medium. Shay does enjoy good play with the foster dogs in her foster home.

Personality:  Shay came to us from a seizure situation in Orangeburg, SC and is rather shy and scared. She will need time to warm up to her new adoptive home and will need other dogs in the household. She is full of energy but never had the proper human socialization so will need to build that trust. Once she is comfortable, she is very playful and cuddly. She is absolutely adorable but patience will be a must for Miss Shay.

Good with Dogs:  Yes and other dogs are a must for her.

Good with Cats:  Shay has been around a cat and did just fine but other dogs will be key for her. Siberians are notorious for their high prey drive and typically kill cats, rabbits, birds, chickens, squirrels, opossums, etc.

Good with Children:  With Shay being so scared and skittish, she will do better in a home with older children as the excitement and noise of young kids will scare her. Siberians are typically good with children of all ages and the only reason we would not list them as not good with kids is because they may be too energetic and bouncy and knock over a toddler.

Housetrained:  Yes

Crate Trained:  Yes but she does have house privileges as well because she is not destructive and can be trusted out and about the house.

Rides Well in Car:  Yes

Leash Trained:  Does pretty well on leash with not much pulling.

Basic Obedience:  Shay does know sit, down and shake.
