About Lorna

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Black with White
  • Declawed: No
  • Housetrained: Yes

SSR is pleased to announce that we are partnering with Nash Correctional Institution and are proudly participating in their 'A New Leash On Life' prison training program. Lorna is one of our foster dogs that completed training and she graduated on March 27, 2010. During her time at Nash, Lorna learned sit, shake with both paws, down and rollover. She had fun with the agility course, which includes walking the bench, climbing an A-Frame, jumping through a tire, placing on a pedestal and then doing her sit, shakes and down.

Name:  Lorna

Sex:  Female

Approx. DOB:  September 21, 2007

Weight:  Approx. 50 lbs.

Coat Color:  Black and White

Eye Color:  Blue

Energy Level:  Medium to low. Lorna does selectively play with other foster dogs in her foster home but she is more inclined to go off investigating things on her own.

Personality:  Miss Lorna is very sweet and came to us a bit scared and skittish with people but thankfully her training at Nash has given her the socialization and confidence that she needed. She is a happy girl and enjoys pets and loving and will sink down to the floor and roll over on her back for a belly rub. She's not much on kisses though! She may need a bit of time and patience in her adoptive home until that trust is built.  She has found quite a friend in Foster Dog Riggs and plays beautifully with him. Lorna will do well as either an only dog or with a male companion equal her size.

Good with Dogs:  Yes but doesn't seek out play with the majority of her foster siblings.

Good with Cats:  Not tested yet but probably not as Siberians are notorious for their high prey drive and typically kill cats, rabbits, birds, squirrels, opossums, etc.

Good with Children:  Lorna may do better in a home with older children as the hustle and bustle of toddlers may be more than she will care for. Siberians are typically good with children of all ages and the only reason we would not list them as not good with kids is because they may be too energetic and bouncy and knock over a toddler.

Housetrained:  Yes

Crate Trained:  Yes but she is not crated all the time in her foster home because she is houstrained and not destructive and can be trusted out and about the house.

Rides Well in Car:  Yes

Leash Trained: Does pretty well on leash with not much pulling after she's been walking for about 5 minutes.

Basic Obedience:  Lorna does know sit, shake and down.
